Credits and corrections

Use a sales credit note to reduce or reverse an amount billed to a customer, or a vendor credit for a supplier’s correction. Retain the supporting document and relationship to the original business event.

Record a credit

Check the customer or supplier, currency, affected items and taxes. Review the credited amount and totals before saving and sending a customer-facing credit.

A credit and a refund record different events. Review the remaining balance and allocate refunds or offsets through the payment workflow.

Correct an error

For an editable record, correct the values and recheck totals, payment allocations and accounting status. For an issued document, use the appropriate correction or credit workflow and retain its history.

If a lock prevents changes, follow Period locks and corrections. Recheck affected reports after processing.
