EU VAT Exemptions

In the European Union (EU), if your business is VAT-registered and you sell to a customer who is also VAT-registered but based in a different EU country, you generally do not charge VAT on that transaction. This is because the sale qualifies for zero-rated intra-community supply, provided that the customer's VAT number is valid.

To implement this in Shopify, you need to mark such customers as tax-exempt to ensure they are not charged VAT on their purchases. Here's how you can manage this in Zenvio:

Enable EU VAT Exemptions

Zenvio automatically set customer as tax-exempt when customer enters VAT Number in Shopify during shipping. To enable this automated process:

  1. In your Zenvio account, go to the Integrations → Shopify → Configuration.
  2. Check the Enable EU VAT Exemptions checkbox in Taxes section.
  3. Make sure the Collect EU VAT Numbers is checked too.
  4. Save your changes.

Collect VAT Number

VAT Exemption is based on customers VAT Number. Customer with valid VAT Number is automatically marked as Tax Exempt, when eligible, in Shopify. Therefore, capture & collect customer VAT Number is essential.
